Download

In collaboration with Roskilde Festival and IDA, the VELUX Group invites students to create proposals for how to make Roskilde Festival's lounge areas greener and more circular – in other words, rethinking how to chill at Denmark's Roskilde Festival. This year the theme of the competition is: The Window Edition!

Transforming spaces with innovative designs

For the third consecutive year, the hands-on case competition Sustainability Challenge is taking place at Roskilde Festival – the greatest setting for innovation and circularity. VELUX x Roskilde Festival invites students with an innovative and sustainable mindset to design, present and build elements for festival a lounge area.

Competition description: Rethink the way we “chill” at Roskilde Festival – The Window Edition

The challenge this year will be to design elements for a lounge area, so the guests at Roskilde Festival can chill in a more sustainable way in between concerts. This year, the students will build mainly using scrap wood from VELUX window production within the scope of:

  • Functional installation art
  • Weather protection
  • Group activity elements or
  • Meeting (point) elements

Online meetings and presentations days

The challenge begins with two online meetings where students were given information about the competition, timelines and event details. The first physical meetings take place in Copenhagen and Aarhus, where students present their ideas with digital presentations and small project models. Before presenting to the jury the groups receive feedback from VELUX mentors and make final adjustments to their projects and presentations if needed.

Sustainability Challenge Finale

The Sustainability Challenge 2024 Finale took place Wednesday, July 3rd. The Jury selected the project ‘FRAME’ as the winning design. The project used nine VELUX window frames and plexiglass to create an installation at Roskilde Festival that focuses on community and interaction by providing spaces to sit, relax, and share festival experiences by writing on the plexiglass panels. The project also emphasizes sustainability, as the group highlights that their solution can be easily packed and reused after the festival.
