VELUX Group launches new roof window blinds with a 50% lower carbon footprint

Called Nature Collection, the blinds are primarily made from recycled materials, which significantly reduces their embodied carbon footprint compared to standard VELUX blinds.

VELUX aims to halve its carbon footprint across the value chain and that means also addressing the footprint of our products and these blinds are an example of that. Developing products that have lower carbon footprints is a priority for VELUX and we are significantly increasing our efforts within innovation to reduce embodied emissions.

says Tina Mayn, Executive Vice President, Products and Innovation, the VELUX Group

The blind profiles are made from Hydro* CIRCAL 75R aluminium, which contains a minimum of 75% recycled post-consumer aluminium scrap. The blind textiles are made from 50% recycled textile and during 2023 this will increase to 100% recycled textile. The low-carbon aluminium accounts for the greatest carbon reduction.

In addition to reducing the footprint of the materials used to manufacture the blinds, the packaging they are shipped in is plastic free and made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified cardboard.**

All VELUX blinds are assembled at our European production facilities, which are certified according to STeP by OEKO-TEX® (22002567), and all components of the Nature Collection blinds are sourced from European suppliers.

The Nature Collection blinds come in eight natural looking colours and in both blackout and translucent varieties. They are now being launched in all VELUX markets in Europe.
