The VELUX Group acquires Vitral

Vitral’s roof skylight and glass-roof systems are a good supplement to the VELUX Group’s Modular Skylight System (VMS) for the commercial market

The VELUX Group acquires Vitral, which sells skylight and glass-roof systems in Denmark and England. The company has 60 employees with sales offices in Denmark and England and production in Lithuania. With the recent acquisition of JET-Group and now Vitral, the VELUX Group strengthens its position in the commercial market with 1,100 employees in 13 markets.

Vitral provides flexible skylight and glass-roof systems for the commercial market, to which VELUX launched VELUX Modular Skylights (VMS) in 2012. VMS are large skylight modules for buildings in the commercial market, such as offices, schools, healthcare facilities, shopping malls and retail stores, large public buildings and industrial buildings.

Vitral provides skylight and glass-roof systems that represent a good supplement to our module-based solution, VMS. Today, Vitral is in Denmark and England, where we will thereby strengthen our market positions. In the long term, we hope to be able to expand the sales of Vitral’s solutions to several markets. Furthermore, Vitral has interesting flat-roof solutions for homes, which we also see potential in. We are proud that Vitral, which was established by our founder, is now part of the VELUX Group
says David Briggs, CEO of the VELUX Group.

Vitral was founded in 1956 by Villum Kann Rasmussen, who also founded VELUX and whom VKR Holding is named after. VKR Holding sold Vitral in 2005 to a group of investors. At that time, Vitral was a small stand-alone company, which did not have an adequate level of activity to be cost effective or to constitute an independent business area, so therefore VKR Holding was not the right owner.

Since the launch of VMS in 2012 and the recent acquisition of JET-Group, the VELUX Group has developed a strong position in the commercial market. Furthermore, since 2005 Vitral has further developed new, good products and made its production more effective so that the company fits perfectly with the VELUX Group’s new strategy in the market for commercial buildings.

I am pleased that VELUX is the future owner of Vitral. Since 2005 we have basically completely renewed our product portfolio and in my opinion Vitral’s current products are a good match for the VELUX VMS business, both for pitched and flat roofs. With VELUX, Vitral will have a much stronger platform for growth ahead
says Jens Borelli-Kjær, managing director and owner of Vitral.

Jens Borelli-Kjær will support Vitral until the acquisition is complete, after which he will be available as a consultant while the company is being integrated into the VELUX VMS organisation.

Vitral is an important part of our strategy to develop a leading position in the market for commercial glass-roof solutions. Vitral represents a good supplement to our VMS and JET products. In addition, we will continue to invest in acquisitions and organic growth in this market where we expect significant growth potential
says David Brigss, CEO of the VELUX Group.
