Sustainable buildings are key to urban design

"We have to go back to the vast majority of buildings we have inherited and make sure that quite a bit are renovated and made more sustainable," says renowned Danish architect and urban designer Jan Gehl, who has worked to develop better public spaces in major cities i.e. London, New York and Melbourne. At a conference about the new concept for a sustainable society, Sustainia, Jan Gehl advocated for reducing energy consumption in buildings: "This is also something which could be at the agenda in a time of scarcity in the economic area."
