International VELUX Award 2016 launched

Summary

The International VELUX Award 2016 will open for registration in October 2015, launching the seventh International VELUX Award for Students of Architecture.

With the award, our aim is to engage with students of architecture – the architects of tomorrow – about how to use sunlight as the main source of energy and light and how to ensure health and well-being of people who work and live in buildings. A key challenge is how to transform the existing building stock by active use of strategies for daylighting and natural ventilation,
Per Arnold Andersen, architect and head of the Daylight, Energy and Indoor Climate Knowledge Center in the VELUX Group says.

The International VELUX Award is run every second year. Since the first time in 2004, the award has grown into what is probably the largest competition of its kind for the architects who will shape the buildings of our future. During the six previous awards, some 5,000 students from more than 80 countries have submitted close to 4,000 projects on the theme of ‘Light of Tomorrow’.

Winners 2014

Out of 797 entries in 2014, 12 projects were awarded at the Award event in Vienna. The 12 winning teams and their teachers shared the prize money of 30,000 euro. The winning project “Light, Revitalization” was created by Du Dikang, Li Le, Zhou Yujing and Ma Yao from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China:

To us, the light of tomorrow means rethink the deeper values of daily life,
Du Dikang.

The first-prize winners of previous awards came from Norway, Denmark, the US, South Korea, Switzerland and China.

The VELUX Group organises the Award to strengthen the role of daylight in building design according to the company’s vision of promoting daylight, fresh air and sustainable living. The Award is part of the VELUX Group’s continuous effort to establish close relations with building professionals.

Award brief and detailed information about registration and participation will be issued on iva.velux.com from October 2015. Students need to register to be able to participate in the Award.
