Close to 5,000 students register for the International VELUX Award 2016
The International VELUX Award 2016, which inspires students of architecture to work with daylight in architecture, has received registrations from 97 countries.
The International VELUX Award 2016 for Students of Architecture has seen a remarkable number of registrations for this year’s student competition, which challenges students from around the world to work with daylight in architecture. With over 2,780 teams and nearly 5,000 students from 97 countries registered, the competition will showcase creative explorations on the theme of daylight in buildings and daylight investigations from the world’s leading future architects. Registered students must submit their final project by 15 June 2016 and all entries will be exhibited on IVA.VELUX.com.
This year, the overall winners of the International VELUX Award for Students of Architecture will be announced at the World Architecture Festival in Berlin on 18 November 2016 and all winners will be featured in the November issue of the Architectural Review magazine.

Regional prizes and overall prizes
The International VELUX Award is an ‘open idea’ competition and is organised globally in close collaboration with the International Union of Architects and Architectural Review. The award is organized in two stages: in the first phase, regional prizes will be given to projects from 1) Western Europe, 2) Eastern Europe and the Middle East, 3) the Americas, 4) Asia and Oceania and 5) Africa. In the grand finale, prizes will be presented to two overall global winners at the World Architecture Festival in Berlin.
A diverse and international jury comprised of renowned architects and architectural media has the task of evaluating the dynamic daylight-inspired projects from students from around the world to elect the winners.
Light of Tomorrow
The overall theme of the International VELUX Award 2016 is Light of Tomorrow. The award wants to inspire students of architecture to consider how to use sunlight and daylight as main sources of energy and light, and how to ensure the health and well-being of people who live and work in buildings.
