The VELUX Group is main sponsor of the Great Belt Bridge Run for the third time

After successful sponsorships in 2005 and 2008, 12,000 runners will be happy to hear that the VELUX Group is once again sponsoring the half-marathon across the Great Belt bridge.

Working life, fitness and well-being are three key words in the VELUX Group that are closely linked to the welfare of the staff in many ways. So it is very fitting that the Group is once again sponsoring Denmark's most popular half-marathon, the Great Belt Bridge Run. VELUX people from all over Denmark will be richly represented in the race – some 220 have registered for the beautiful run from Funen to Zealand via the Great Belt Bridge.

This year's Great Belt Bridge Run is part of a new and wide-ranging initiative in the VELUX Group, a sports day for all Danish employees called VELUX Sports Event. 800 people, al-most a third of the labour force of the Group's Danish companies and factories, will meet in Korsør and take part in a day packed with team events and individual performances, with everything from cycling and orienteering to zumba, pétanque and golf. Group Management – CEO Jørgen Tang-Jensen, Group Director David Meyer and Finance Director Peter Bang – will also be taking part, either as active participants or enthusiastic cheerleaders.

"We in the VELUX Group regard the health and welfare of each individual member of staff as an important part of a good working environment. So we are working on several initiatives to place health, a good working life and well-being on the agenda," says Jørgen Tang-Jensen.

"It is obvious that exercise provides an energy boost for everyone and helps minimise the risk of many lifestyle illnesses. So the VELUX Group very much wants to promote the idea of exercise in Denmark. We have decided to be main sponsor of the Great Belt Bridge Run 2011 as one of the initiatives in our quest for employee health and welfare. We have invited all VELUX staff in Denmark to join in the race and are extremely proud that so many of our people have once again gone into training and are ready for this half-marathon," comments Jørgen Tang-Jensen.

The VELUX Group has also invited one of Denmark's most well-known health and exercise experts, Chris MacDonald, to the Bridge event, where he will warm up the runners with a pep talk and good advice before the start of the race on the afternoon of Saturday 28 May. Chris will be running himself and will debrief the other runners when it is all over.

This sporting event will make a valuable contribution to the staff health policy that already exists in the VELUX Group. Everyone in the Group's Danish companies are given an annual check-up as part of the VELUX Healthy Heart programme, through which all canteens are certificated as healthy-heart canteens by the Danish Heart Federation. Depending on the results of the check-up, employees are offered help with their diet, smoking habit, alcohol consumption and exercise.
