The VELUX Group Sponsors Copenhagen Design Week 2009

Quote module 1

From 27 August, Copenhagen Design Week 2009 will present Danish and international design trends and talents under the theme Sustainable Design. The VELUX Group is main sponsor and arranger of an international architecture seminar.

Copenhagen Design Week 2009 puts the focus on design and innovation in an environmental perspective, with the VELUX Group as main sponsor, exhibitor and seminar arranger. Copenhagen Design Week's many exhibits, seminars and lectures attempt to give Danish and international answers to one of the most pressing questions of our time – how can the products we design help combat climate change?

Sponsorship of Copenhagen Design Week 2009 is an extension of VELUX Climate Strategy, which addresses the issues of sustainable design and sustainability in all products. The VELUX Group regards work on every product in a societal perspective that embraces concern for our environment, reduced use of resources and social responsibility. This avenue of thinking affects every link of the values chain, from choice of materials to production methodology and transport. The theoretical knowledge has been put into practical building experiments with Model Home 2020. Visitors to Copenhagen Design Week can examine several of the VELUX Group's sustainable and energy-efficient products for themselves.

On Monday 31 August, the VELUX Group – in company with Danish Design Centre, Danish Architecture Centre and Sustainable Cities – will host the seminar Future Living at the Danish Architecture Centre in Copenhagen. Architects Georg Wolfgang Reinberg (Austria) and Professor Simon Guy from Manchester School of Architecture (UK) will present the concept of Sustainable Architecture, aimed at equipping homes and towns to meet the climate challenges of the future. Afterwards the delegates will have the opportunity to discuss sustainable architecture with its proponents in three debates chaired by Danish television journalist Adrian Hughes.

The target group of the seminar, which will run from 1230-1700, is very broad: architects, the building sector, designers, civil servants, politicians, NGOs – and anyone else with an interest. Enrolment is essential.

A series of concrete projects is on exhibition at the Danish Design Centre's stand and demonstrate that it is possible to produce designs that not only bring about positive development for people, the environment and the economy, but are also a joy to behold. It is also here at "Copenhagen Showhow" that you can make closer acquaintance with the VELUX Group's Model Home 2020.
